ktvu alex savidge begins our team coverage this morning. alex is in san francisco where some bart workers are walking the picket line. alex. >> reporter: they are. they have been out here for the last couple of hours this morning. striking bart workers tell me they really feel sorry for commuters it had to come to this. they said they had no other choice. i want to show you the scene. you can see a group of about a dozen or so striking bart workers. union employees with picket signs standing here outside of the civic center bart station right now. a total of about 2400 bart employees are on strike this morning. and service across the system is shut down. these employees include train operators, station agents, and maintenance workers. this all comes after negotiations broke off last night between bart management and two employee unions. a negotiator i talked with out here this morning tells me the the major sticking points in those negotiations were addressing safety concerns include lighting in many ostiums. pay was another big issue. the

ktvu's tara moriarty is on the scene. so tara, what have you been able to find out about what happened? >> reporter: well, crime scene investigators are on the way. in the meantime, police are guarding the scene until they arrive. if you take a look behind me, you can see the yellow tarp. that's where the victim was found. next to it is a sleeping bag. that's where police believe he was sleeping here. this is morris street. it's an alleyway between harrison and bryant. police say around 5:00 this morning, a man walking by found the victim lying on the sidewalk bleeding. he suffered a puncture wound to the back of the head. it was a very grisly scene. he was rushed to san francisco general hospital and is in critical condition. at this point, we don't know how it all unfolded but police believe he was attacked. >> it could be any option. it could be a stabbing, a shooting. could have happened from a fight. but i'm not exactly sure. it's still under investigation. >> reporter: all we know about the victim, he's a white male

ktvu news has obtained a picture of the child and ktvu's tara moriarty joins us live from the scene of this horrific crime where grieving family members have gathered. >> reporter: good morning. it's been a gut-wrenching morning for family members. they've lost a one father and his 1-year-old son. about 15 minutes ago, the coroner pulled up to take away the father's body. we want to show you a picture of the 1-year-old victim in this case, drew jackson. he was taken to children's hospital earlier this morning after being shot but he did not survive. police say someone crept into the backyard of the house on gormley avenue and shot little drew and his 20-year-old father while they were in the bedroom. neighbors say six to eight shots rang out just before 3:00 this morning. the father died on the scene. family members say the violence in oakland is unbearable and no mother should have to bury their baby. >> he was a jolly kid. i know everybody says that about that niece and nephew. he liked to play outside. he liked animals and he liked to play, he liked to play with his sister. >> repor
